Masks for different ages

This set includes bold mask outlines and friendly themes that children can recognise and enjoy. Younger children can colour large shapes, add simple details and ask an adult to help with cutting or attaching the mask. Children in Class 1 to 3 can choose colours, add patterns and make small changes to show a character or animal. The activities keep the craft steps manageable while leaving room for each child to make the finished mask their own. Adult supervision is needed when children use scissors, elastic or small craft materials.

Use masks for play and learning

At home, let your child make a mask before a short pretend-play scene, a family story or a puppet-style conversation. In class, children can work in pairs and act out a simple dialogue using polite greetings, animal sounds or feelings. You can connect the craft to a story by asking children to make a beginning, middle and ending for their play. Display finished masks on a classroom board, or use them during a speaking activity where each child says two sentences in role.

Help with cutting and wearing

Children often cut too close to the outline, leave rough corners or place the eye holes unevenly. Show your child how to turn the paper as they cut and how to make small snips around curves instead of forcing the scissors. Before attaching a stick or elastic, check that the mask sits comfortably and that the eyes are clear. A child who finds cutting difficult can colour and decorate while an adult cuts the shape. Remind children to hold a stick mask in front of the face rather than running with it.
