Letter practice through colouring

Each page has a picture divided into simple sections. A letter key shows which colour belongs with each letter, so your child looks carefully, finds the matching letter, and colours the area. Younger children can begin with a few large sections and familiar letters. Children who are ready for more can work with several letters and smaller spaces. Easy ways to use the pages

At home, offer one page after school or keep a few in a quiet activity folder. Ask your child to name each letter in the key before colouring, then invite them to say the colour aloud as they work. In class, use a page for an alphabet centre, early-finisher work, or a small-group activity. Children can compare their colour choices with the key, then circle one picture part that was easy and one that needed care. Pair older children with younger classmates for gentle letter-reading practice.

Small alphabet facts to share

A letter has a name and a sound, and the two can be different in some words. For example, the letter C can have a /k/ sound in cat and an /s/ sound in city. The letter A begins words such as apple, ant, and aeroplane. Children may also notice that the same letter can appear in upper-case and lower-case forms, such as A and a. Pointing out these patterns while your child colours gives the activity a little more language practice without turning it into a test.
