This set includes simple card-matching activities with clear pictures and familiar themes. Younger children can match a small group of bold, easy-to-tell-apart cards with an adult. Older children can play with more pairs, remember more card positions, and follow turn-taking rules with less help. The pictures may include animals, food, toys, transport, shapes, and everyday objects. Each activity gives your child a chance to look closely, make a choice, and remember what was under a card without making the task feel like a test.
Cut out the cards and place them face down in neat rows. Begin with the cards face up so your child can match the pairs, then turn them over for a memory game. At home, play with a sibling or let your child be the caller who checks each pair. In class, use a small group and give each child a turn to turn over two cards. You can name the pictures together, sort matched pairs by theme, or ask children to describe where a card was found.
Young children often turn over cards too quickly, forget which cards they have seen, or move cards after looking at them. Show them how to pause, look carefully, and keep the cards in the same place. If a pair does not match, help your child remember both pictures before turning them back. It is fine to play cooperatively at first, with everyone trying to find the pairs together. Praise careful looking and remembering rather than only the number of pairs collected.
It is a matching game in which cards are placed face down and players turn over two cards at a time to find pairs. The game uses picture recognition, recall, and turn-taking.
Children can begin with simple picture matching at about age 2, using a few face-up cards and adult help. By ages 4 to 6, many children can try more pairs with the cards face down.
Use fewer pairs, choose pictures that look very different, and let your child see the cards face up before playing. You can also play together instead of keeping score.
