Layouts for different ages

This set includes clear seating plans for rows, pairs, small groups, tables, and open activity areas. Younger children can use simple picture or name spaces with help from an adult. Older children can work with blank grids, numbered places, or larger plans that allow them to organise a whole group. Use the templates with names, initials, table numbers, or small symbols. The layouts can support a nursery room, a primary classroom, a tuition group, or a quiet home learning space.

Simple ways to use the templates

Write each child's name in a space before the school day, then keep the chart near your desk or activity table. Use a table layout for art, group reading, or maths games, and a row layout for independent work. At home, make a small plan for siblings, visiting cousins, or a study session. Ask an older child to copy names neatly or help change the plan when groups change. You can pair the chart with a Classroom Behaviour Chart when children are practising classroom routines.

Help children read the plan correctly

Children may confuse left and right, read a chart from the wrong direction, or skip a space when copying names. Start by pointing to a known place, such as the teacher's desk or the door, and explain that the chart must match the room. Walk around the actual space together and check each name. For younger children, add a colour or familiar symbol to each place. Older children can check whether every name appears once and help spot empty or repeated spaces before the chart is used.
