The worksheets use four writing lines to show where letters begin, sit and extend. Younger children can practise simple print letters, short words and carefully copied phrases. Older children can work on joined writing, capital letters, descenders and full sentences. The set gives children repeated practice without asking them to write a long passage at once. Use Handwriting Practice Worksheets when your child needs broader letter and word practice, then return to these pages for closer work on line placement.
At home, choose one sheet for a short daily session. Ask your child to trace a model first, copy it slowly, then write a few examples without help. In class, give each child a page that matches their current stage, or place different sheets at a handwriting centre. Children can read each word aloud before writing it. Keep a small folder of completed work so you can notice changes in spacing, size and control. A partner can gently check whether letters sit on the base line without judging the handwriting.
Children often make letters too large, place small letters between the wrong lines or let tall letters and hanging letters lose their shape. Point to the top, middle, base and lower lines, then describe the movement in simple words such as start at the top, curve down or drop below the line. Encourage a relaxed grip and a slow pace. If a child tires quickly, practise two or three letters at a time. Show one neat example and ask the child to compare size and spacing rather than rubbing out every mistake.
It is handwriting practice on four horizontal lines that guide the height and position of letters. The lines help children see where small letters sit and where tall or hanging letters extend.
These worksheets suit children aged 5 to 12, with simpler letter and word work for younger writers and longer words, sentences or cursive practice for older children.
Four line paper can support both print and cursive writing. Use it to practise letter height, joins, spacing and the position of each letter on the line.
Short, regular sessions are usually easier to manage than a long writing task. Ten to fifteen minutes can give your child time to warm up, practise carefully and stop before becoming tired.
