Fruit learning for different ages

This set brings together clear fruit posters, picture charts and simple learning pages for young children. Toddlers and Nursery children can point to familiar fruits, repeat their names and talk about colour and shape. LKG and UKG children can match pictures to words, notice beginning sounds and sort fruits in different ways. Children in Classes 1 to 3 can read labels, compare fruits, practise spelling and write short descriptions. Familiar choices such as mango, banana, apple, guava, papaya, orange, grapes, watermelon and pomegranate help connect the charts with everyday life in India.

Simple ways to use the charts

Put one chart near your child's snack area and name two or three fruits together each day. Ask your child to find a fruit on the poster before eating it, then talk about its colour, taste, seeds or peel. In class, place picture cards around the room for a fruit hunt, or let small groups sort them by colour, size or whether they have one large seed or many small seeds. Pair the set with an Alphabet Chart for beginning sounds, or use a Seasons Chart to discuss fruits seen at different times of year.

Helping with common fruit mix-ups

Children often confuse fruits that look alike, such as an orange and a tangerine, or forget less familiar names such as guava and pomegranate. They may also focus on colour and call every green fruit an apple or every small round fruit a grape. Point to the whole picture first, say the name slowly and ask your child to repeat it. Then add one useful clue, such as a rough peel, many seeds or a bunch. Accept regional names where helpful, while also introducing the English label shown on the chart.

Lumi's tips

  • Make it easier by using only three familiar fruits at first and asking your child to point, name or match them.
  • Make it harder by asking older children to sort fruits in two ways and write one sentence about each group.
  • Keep it connected to real life by taking the chart to the market and finding fruits that match its pictures.
