  • Time: 10 to 20 minutes per worksheet

A gentle start to general knowledge

This set brings everyday knowledge into short, manageable activities. Younger children can identify pictures, match familiar objects and colour simple scenes. Children closer to Class 1 can sort items, read short clues, complete patterns and answer basic questions. Topics include animals and their homes, body parts, food, transport, weather, seasons, community helpers, road safety and simple facts about India. You can choose a page by your child's reading level rather than expecting every child to complete every activity in the same way.

Simple ways to use the worksheets

At home, choose one page after a walk, a story or a visit to a market. Ask your child to point to real examples before starting, such as a bus, a leaf or a road sign. In class, use a worksheet as morning work, a small-group task or a quiet follow-up after a lesson. Let children talk in pairs before they write. Younger learners may answer orally while you read the words aloud. Older children can write one extra fact or draw an example of their own.

Help children notice the small details

Children often mix up similar ideas, such as a plant and a tree, a vehicle and its driver, or summer weather and rainy weather. They may also match an animal to the wrong home because they rely on colour or size alone. Ask, 'What do you notice?' before giving the answer. For a safety page, discuss the situation rather than asking children to memorise a rule. For India-based topics, use familiar examples from your child's surroundings and accept suitable local answers when the worksheet allows them.

Lumi's tips

  • Make it easier by reading each clue aloud and offering two picture choices instead of the full set.
  • Make it harder by asking your child to explain each match or add one new example not shown on the page.
  • Keep it connected to real life by taking the worksheet on a short walk and finding the animals, signs, plants or vehicles pictured.
