This set introduces familiar 2D shapes with clear outlines, simple labels and plenty of space to look closely. Younger children can begin with circle, square and triangle, then match the cards to objects around them. Children in LKG, UKG and Class 1 can practise less familiar shapes such as oval, rectangle, diamond and semicircle. Ask older children to describe corners and straight or curved sides. Keep the first session short, with just a few cards, and add more as your child becomes comfortable with the names.
At home, show one card at a time and ask your child to find the same shape in the room. A clock can be a circle, a door can be a rectangle and a plate can be an oval when viewed from the side. In class, place cards face down for a matching game, or hold up a card and invite children to make the shape with their fingers. Pair these cards with Number Flashcards for counting corners, or use Colors Flashcards to sort by colour.
Children often name a shape from its colour or size instead of its form. Show a large blue circle and a small red circle together so your child sees that both are circles. A square may be called a rectangle, especially when the card is turned, so compare their sides gently. Count corners aloud and trace each edge with a finger. Avoid correcting every answer quickly. Repeat the shape name, give a clue and let your child look again.
They help children recognise, name, compare and match common shapes. You can use them for short practice sessions, games and classroom revision.
Begin with simple, familiar shapes such as circle, square and triangle. Use real objects and repeat the names without expecting your child to remember them straight away.
Place the two cards together and compare their sides. Explain that a square has four equal sides, while a rectangle has two longer sides and two shorter sides.
Yes. Use them for circle time, sorting games, shape hunts and small-group practice in Nursery, LKG, UKG or Class 1.
