A little fish lives happily in a pond. It swims through the cool water, moving its tail and fins. The fish sees plants, small stones and other water creatures around it. When it comes out of the water, it cannot swim or breathe as it does in the pond, so it needs to return home. Children can repeat the simple idea that the fish belongs in the water and enjoys swimming there. Use the rhyme to talk about where fish live and how animals need the right home. Lesson: Every living thing needs a safe place suited to its needs.
Say the rhyme slowly once, then repeat it with a steady clap. Point to each picture as you name the fish, water, tail and pond in Hindi or English. Pause before a repeated word and let your child say it. Ask simple questions such as, "Where does the fish live?" and "What does it use to swim?" Children may answer with one word, a gesture or a full sentence. If your family speaks more than one language, say the key words in Hindi and your home language. You can also link this page with Nursery Rhymes for Kids for more familiar rhyme practice.
Invite your child to colour the fish and add blue water, green plants and round stones. Make a fish shape with paper and move it through an imaginary pond while repeating the rhyme. Sort pictures or household objects into things found in water and things found on land. For Hindi vocabulary practice, point to a picture and ask your child to repeat one word at a time, such as machhli, paani and talaab. Older children can draw a second fish and dictate a short sentence about it for you to write.
Hindi rhymes are short, rhythmic verses that children can sing, repeat and act out. They often use familiar animals, family members, nature and everyday actions.
Yes. A grown-up can read the words aloud while the child follows the pictures, claps to the rhythm and repeats simple words. This works well for children learning Hindi as an additional language.
Read or sing it slowly, point to the pictures, repeat key words and use actions. Ask one easy question about the pictures, then let your child colour or act out the rhyme.
