This set gives children several ways to practise drawing an elephant. Younger children can trace large shapes, add simple details and colour a friendly elephant. Older children can follow step-by-step prompts, add folds to the ears, shape the trunk and create a simple background. The pages support pencil work, colouring and careful observation without asking every child to draw in the same style. Children may use the sheets as a first drawing guide, then try making their own elephant on plain paper.
At home, read a short elephant fact book or look at a photograph before your child chooses a printable. Ask them to point out the ears, trunk, tusks, tail and four legs before they begin. In class, use the pages during an animal theme, an art centre or a lesson on living things. Children can work in pairs, with one child giving shape instructions while the other draws. Display finished work with a sentence such as, My elephant has large ears and a long trunk.
Children often make the body too small for the head, place all four legs in a single row or draw the trunk as a thin straight line. Start by helping your child see the elephant as a few large shapes: an oval body, a rounded head, broad ears and sturdy legs. Add smaller details after the main outline looks balanced. Remind them that the far legs can be partly hidden. For an Indian setting, they can add a forest path, grass or a temple festival scene without placing decorations on the animal.
Begin with a large oval body and a rounded head. Add wide ears, four strong legs, a curved trunk and a small tail, then erase extra guide lines.
An elephant can be built from simple ovals, circles and curved lines. Use a large oval for the body, a rounded shape for the head, broad curved ears and long curved lines for the trunk.
Ask the child to sketch the body and head first, then add the ears, trunk and legs. Finish with the eyes, tusks if suitable, tail, ground line and colour.
Show that the legs are thick and taper slightly towards the feet. Place the nearer legs clearly and let the farther legs overlap or sit partly behind the body.
