About reading & comprehension

Reading and Comprehension Practice

This subcategory brings together printable activities that help your child read carefully and show what they understand. You will find reading comprehension worksheets, picture reading worksheets, short stories with questions, story sequencing worksheets, unseen passage worksheets and poem comprehension worksheets. The topic pages are arranged by skill and school level. Start with pictures or short sentences for a young learner, then move to passages, poems and longer stories as reading confidence grows. Each worksheet gives your child a clear task, such as matching, ordering events, finding answers or writing a sentence.

Choose by Age and Class Level

Choose a page that matches your child's reading level rather than relying only on age. Reading comprehension for Kindergarten may use pictures, familiar words and simple questions. Class 1 and Class 2 worksheets can practise short passages, word meaning and direct answers. For Class 3 to Class 5, try longer passages, poems, sequencing tasks and questions that require details from the text. If your child is still learning to read, begin with picture reading or read the passage aloud together. Move to unseen passages when your child can read a short text independently.

Ideas for Home and Classroom Use

At home, print one worksheet for a quiet 10 to 15 minute practice session. Read the text aloud once, let your child read it again, then ask them to point to the sentence that supports each answer. For story sequencing, cut the events into strips and let your child arrange them before writing. In class, use a short passage for shared reading, pair work or a quick follow-up task after a story lesson. Keep a few picture reading pages for early finishers. You can make a task easier by reading the text together, or harder by asking for complete-sentence answers.
