How to choose festivals & seasons

Activities arranged by festival and season

The category is arranged so you can quickly choose a familiar festival, a special day or a time of year. You will find Diwali, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami, Navratri and Dussehra, Raksha Bandhan, and Sankranti, Pongal, Onam and Lohri. There are also Eid and Ramadan, Christmas, more festivals, national and special days, seasons, month by month activities and birthdays. Each group may include colouring pages, matching tasks, tracing, word work, crafts or classroom sheets. For example, you can choose Diwali activities for kids for a festival lesson, or print a simple Holi colouring page for quiet work.

Choosing a suitable activity for your child

Start with your child's age, pencil control and reading level. Children aged 3 to 5 may enjoy large colouring pictures, tracing lines, picture matching and simple cut and paste work. For ages 5 to 7, try festival word searches, counting sheets, pattern work and short writing prompts. Children aged 7 to 12 can work on reading passages, quizzes, crosswords, research prompts and festival comparison tasks. You can make a sheet easier by reading the instructions aloud or colouring one example together. To add challenge, ask your child to write a greeting, label a picture or explain one festival custom in their own words.

Simple ideas for home and classroom use

At home, print a colouring page for a quiet activity before a family celebration. Pair it with a short conversation about food, clothing, music, kindness or family traditions. Your child could make a festival card, create a paper decoration or keep a monthly activity page in a folder. In class, use a worksheet as morning work, a festival vocabulary station or a small-group task. Display finished work on a noticeboard, or invite children to compare how different families celebrate. For younger children, keep scissors supervised and prepare crayons, pencils, glue and child-safe paper materials before the activity begins.
