How to choose science & evs

Topics arranged for easy browsing

The Science and EVS section is grouped into ten useful areas. Start with All About Me and My World for family, home and community topics. Animals and Habitats, Life Cycles, Plants, Human Body and Health, and Space and Earth cover familiar school themes. You can also find Weather, Seasons and Water, Environment, Matter and Simple Experiments, and General Knowledge. Within these groups are topics such as animal habitats, the life cycle of a butterfly, parts of a plant, body parts, the five senses, the solar system and planets. This arrangement helps you find a worksheet that matches your lesson or your child's question.

Choose pages by age and level

For children aged 3 to 5, choose pages with large pictures, matching tasks, simple sorting and basic naming. All About Me, body parts, family, colours in nature and common animals are good starting points. Children aged 5 to 7 can try labelling parts of a plant, matching animals to habitats, identifying the five senses and sorting living and non-living things. For Classes 2 to 5, choose pages on life cycles, food chains, planets, weather, matter and simple experiments. Read the instructions first and give your child one page at a time. To make a page easier, read the words aloud. To make it harder, ask for a reason or a short sentence.

Use worksheets at home or in class

Use a worksheet as a short activity after a conversation, story or observation. After a walk, your child can draw a plant, name its parts and talk about what it needs. At home, sort pictures of animals by habitat, make a weather chart for the week or label family members in a My Family worksheet. In class, pair a worksheet with a real object, such as a leaf, stone or cup of water. Let children work in pairs before they write alone. Keep crayons, pencils and a ruler nearby. Older children can explain their answers to a partner or add one fact below each picture.

Download and print from EarlyActivity

Choose a worksheet from the Science and EVS category, open its page and download the PDF using your free EarlyActivity account. Most printables are free, and a free account can download up to 20 printables a day. The files are sized for A4 and US Letter paper. In your printer settings, select Actual size or 100% so the pictures and writing spaces keep their intended size. Print a test page if you are unsure about the paper setting. You may use the printables at home or in your own classroom. Sharing or reselling the files is not allowed.
