Friendly robots for different ages

This set includes cheerful robots with clear outlines, buttons, screens, tools and playful settings. Younger children can work with large shapes and open spaces, while older children can add shading, patterns, labels and background details. The scenes may include a robot helping at home, exploring space, working in a garden or meeting other machines. Children can colour the robots in silver, blue or red, or invent their own colours. There is no single correct way to finish a robot picture, so each child can make the machine their own.

Ideas for home and the classroom

At home, ask your child to give each robot a name, job and place to live. After colouring, they can draw a control panel, write three things the robot can do or tell a short story about its day. In class, use a robot picture as a quiet colouring task after a lesson, then invite children to compare their colour choices. Older pupils can label parts such as wheels, arms, lights and sensors. A group can make a simple robot word wall with words such as move, help, build, sense and programme.

Three simple robot facts for children

Robots are machines that people make to carry out tasks. Some robots have wheels, some have arms, and some can move through the air or underwater. Robots use sensors to notice things such as light, sound, distance or touch, then follow instructions from a computer or controller. Many robots do not look like people. They can help with jobs that are difficult, repetitive or unsafe, while people decide what the robot should do and check its work.

Lumi's tips

  • For a younger child, name two colours for the robot and leave the larger background areas open.
  • For an older child, ask your child to add a control panel, three useful tools and labels for each robot part.
  • Connect the picture to real life by asking your child to invent a robot that could help at home, in a school or on a farm.

Questions parents ask

Are robot colouring pages suitable for a three-year-old?

Yes. Choose pictures with large shapes and bold outlines, and offer thick crayons. An adult can name the colours and help with small areas.

What can older children do with robot colouring pages?

Older children can add shading, patterns, labels and a background story. They can also design a new robot on the back of the page.

Can I download and print these robot colouring pages?

Most EarlyActivity printables are free to download with a free account. Files are PDFs for A4 and US Letter paper, and you can print them for home use or in your own classroom.

What colours should children use for robots?

There is no required colour scheme. Children can use grey and silver for a machine-like look, or choose bright colours to create a friendly robot.

Can robot colouring pages support a school lesson?

Yes. Use them with lessons about machines, simple instructions, space, inventions or writing. Children can colour first and then label the robot or describe its job.
