About mandalas for kids

Mandalas organised by theme and level

This subcategory brings together six useful choices: Easy Mandala, Animal Mandala, Flower Mandala, Heart Mandala, Star Mandala and Mandala Coloring Pages. The easy pages use simpler shapes and fewer small spaces, while the themed pages give children a clear subject to colour. The main Mandala pages include a wider mix of repeated patterns. Start with the topic that suits your child's interest, or move between themes when you want a fresh colouring activity. Each topic page contains printable designs for children to use with crayons, colour pencils or sketch pens.

Choosing a page for your child's age

For a 5 or 6 year old, begin with Easy Mandala pages that have broad sections and clear outlines. A 7 or 8 year old may enjoy Animal, Heart or Star Mandala pages with a little more detail. Children aged 9 to 12 can try Flower Mandala or the general Mandala pages, especially when they like filling small repeated spaces and planning a colour pattern. Age is only a guide. Pick a simpler page when your child is tired, or offer a detailed page when they want a longer activity.

Using mandalas at home and in class

At home, set out one printed page with crayons or colour pencils and let your child choose a two or three-colour pattern. You can ask them to colour matching sections or create a repeating sequence without telling them which colours to use. In class, print different themes for an art centre, or give each child the same design and compare the different colour choices. Mandalas can also support a lesson on shapes, symmetry or patterns. Write the child's name and date on the page before displaying the finished work.
