Scenes for different ages

This set includes simple outdoor scenes as well as pictures with more details to colour. Younger children can work with large shapes such as a sun, hill, tree, river or cloud. Older children can add colour to houses, bridges, paths, plants, rocks and changing skies. The pages give children room to make their own choices, so a meadow can be green, a sunset can be orange, and a snowy mountain can have any colour the child imagines. Children who enjoy flowers may also like Flower Coloring Pages, while Tree Coloring Pages offer a closer look at trees.

Ideas for home and class

At home, invite your child to colour a favourite place from a family visit, such as a park, beach or hill station. Ask them to add two things they remember seeing there. In class, use a landscape page as a quiet art activity, then let children name the landforms, plants and buildings in their picture. Older pupils can write a short caption, label foreground and background, or compare a dry landscape with a rainy one. Display the finished work together to make a class nature wall, or use the pictures as prompts for a short speaking activity.

Small facts about landscapes

A landscape is the land and features we can see in a place. Mountains are higher than the land around them, and their tops may be rocky or covered with snow. Rivers usually flow from higher land towards lower land, eventually reaching a lake, sea or another river. India has many kinds of landscapes, including the Himalayas, coastal areas, forests, deserts and fertile plains. Ask your child to spot one of these features in a picture and say whether it looks wet, dry, flat, high, warm or cool.

Lumi's tips

  • For a younger child, name three colours to use and let them fill the largest shapes first.
  • For an older child, ask them to show distance by using lighter colours for faraway hills and add labels to the main features.
  • Keep it connected to real life by colouring a landscape seen from a window, in a storybook or during a family outing.
