Pictures for younger and older children

The set includes friendly dogs in different poses and settings, such as sitting, running, playing with a ball and resting in a basket. Younger children can work with large shapes and bold outlines, while older children can add colour patterns, shadows, backgrounds and small details. Some pictures include collars, bowls, bones, houses or garden scenes to give children more to notice. If your child enjoys small, playful dogs, you can continue with these Puppy Coloring Pages.

Ideas for home and class

At home, ask your child to give each dog a name and say one sentence about it. They can choose colours for the collar, bowl or toy, then draw a small home for the dog in the empty space. In class, use a picture for a pet vocabulary activity with words such as paws, tail, ears, fur and kennel. Children can compare their choices, sort dogs by size or practise writing a short description. Older pupils can write a simple set of instructions for caring for a pet.

Three friendly dog facts

Dogs use their noses to gather information about people, places and other animals. A dog's whiskers can help it notice objects close to its face, especially in dim light. Dogs communicate in several ways, including body position, ear movement, barking and tail movement. You can share one fact before colouring and ask your child to show it in the picture. For example, they might add a nose-print sign, draw whiskers clearly or show a dog with its ears raised.

Lumi's tips

  • For a younger child, name two or three colours and let them choose where each colour goes.
  • For an older child, ask them to add a background, create a repeating fur pattern or write the dog's point of view.
  • Keep the activity connected to real life by asking your child to observe a familiar dog from a safe distance and notice its size, colour and body language.
