The set introduces common Hindi matras through large letters, clear vowel signs and familiar examples. Younger children can look at the colours, trace signs with a finger and say simple sounds with an adult. Children who are beginning to read can compare forms such as क, का, कि, की, कु and कू. Older children can use the charts to read short syllables and words. The layouts suit Nursery, LKG, UKG and early primary learners, with enough repetition for children who are still becoming familiar with Devanagari.
Put one chart near your child's study space and spend a few minutes saying the signs aloud. Point to a base letter, add a matra card or paper strip, then ask your child how the sound changes. In class, display a chart during Hindi reading time and invite children to find a matching matra in a word card. You can pair this set with an Alphabet Chart for children who are learning consonants at the same time. Let children circle a chosen matra in a short list of familiar words.
A common early mistake is placing a matra in the wrong position or reading the sign separately from the consonant. The छोटी इ matra, ि, is written before the consonant but spoken after it, as in कि. Other signs may appear after, above or below the consonant, so children benefit from seeing the whole syllable rather than memorising shapes alone. Say pairs such as क and का, or कु and कू, slowly and clearly. Avoid rushing through every sign. Revisit two or three at a time and praise careful looking.
A Hindi matra chart shows vowel signs used with consonants in Devanagari. It helps children see how a consonant sound changes when a matra is added.
Begin with common signs such as ा, ि, ी, ु, ू, े, ै, ो and ौ. Practise each with a familiar consonant and a few simple words.
The ि sign is written before the consonant, but its sound is read after the consonant. For example, कि is read as ki, not by reading the sign first on its own.
Display one poster where your child can see it during Hindi practice. Point to a sign, say its sound, and ask your child to find or read a matching syllable.
