This set includes clear phonics charts for children at different stages of early reading. Younger children can point to letters, listen for sounds and name familiar pictures. Older children can practise short vowel sounds, CVC words, digraphs, blends and simple word families. Large letters, uncluttered layouts and picture clues help children focus on one sound pattern at a time. Use a single poster for a short activity, or keep a few charts together as a handy reading reference. Children do not need to learn every sound in one sitting.
At home, choose one sound and ask your child to find it on the chart, say the sound and name a picture that begins with it. Tap the sounds in a CVC word, then blend them slowly. In class, place a chart near the reading corner and use it for a five-minute warm-up before a story or writing task. You can cover a few pictures with paper and ask children to recall them, or let pairs take turns pointing to a sound and saying a matching word. Link the activity to Alphabet Chart when children need a letter-name reminder.
Children often say the letter name instead of its sound, or add an extra vowel after a consonant, such as saying buh for /b/. Say the sound briefly and cleanly, then let your child repeat it. Some sounds are easily confused, including /p/ and /b/, /t/ and /d/, or /f/ and /v/. Ask your child to watch your mouth, listen again and compare two words. When blending, keep the sounds close together rather than leaving long pauses. Do not correct every mistake at once. Repeat the word naturally, point to the chart and give your child another chance.
A phonics chart is a visual guide that connects letters or groups of letters with their sounds. It may include pictures, simple words, blends, digraphs or word families.
Children can begin around age 2 with listening games, picture names and a few letter sounds. From about ages 4 to 8, they can use charts for blending, CVC words, digraphs and common blends.
Choose one small section and spend five to ten minutes saying the sounds, finding pictures and blending simple words. Stop while your child is still interested, then return to the chart another day.
Yes. Use them for group sound practice, a reading corner, a quick revision task or a reference during early writing activities. Choose charts that match the sounds your class is learning.
