Charts for little and big learners

This set includes simple charts for children who are beginning to follow routines, along with more flexible layouts for older children. Younger children can add a sticker or colour one space after brushing their teeth, tidying toys or putting away shoes. Older children can track a few weekly goals, record progress and choose a suitable reward. Some templates have picture prompts and large spaces, while others leave room for writing, planning and personal goals.

Use the chart at home or in class

Choose one or two behaviours that your child can control, then agree on when a mark will be added. At home, use a morning routine chart before school or a tidy-up chart before playtime. In class, a child can track personal goals such as bringing materials, completing a task or helping to care for the reading corner. You can also pair these templates with Chore Charts for Kids when daily jobs need their own clear list.

Keep rewards clear and encouraging

A common mistake is adding too many goals at once. A child may feel unsure if the chart asks for perfect behaviour, several chores and long-term progress all together. Start with one small action and explain exactly what counts. Give the mark soon after the action, notice the effort in plain words and review the chart at a set time. Rewards do not need to be expensive. Extra story time, choosing a family game or helping to plan a snack can work well.

Lumi's tips

  • Make the chart easier by starting with one goal that your child can complete most days, such as putting dirty clothes in the basket.
  • Make it harder for an older child by asking them to choose a weekly goal, check their own progress and write a short reflection.
  • Keep it fun by letting your child choose the colours, stickers or small non-material reward linked to family time.

Questions parents ask

What age can children start using reward charts?

Children from about age 3 can use a chart with pictures, one simple goal and stickers or colouring. Older children can manage written goals and weekly tracking.

What should I put on a reward chart?

Choose one to three clear actions that your child can control, such as getting dressed, packing a school bag or putting toys away. Write or draw the action so there is little room for confusion.

Are reward charts suitable for classroom use?

Yes. Use them for personal goals or small group routines rather than comparing children. Keep the chart private when possible and praise steady effort.

What rewards can I offer without buying things?

Try choosing the bedtime story, playing a family game, spending time with a parent or selecting a weekend activity. Agree on the reward before the chart begins.

How do I download or print these reward charts?

Choose a template and download the PDF with a free EarlyActivity account. Print it for use at home or in your own classroom. Free accounts can download up to 20 printables a day.
