Games for different ages

This set brings together party game templates that children can use with a little adult help. Younger children can match pictures, follow simple actions, count spaces or find familiar objects. Children in primary school can read clues, act out prompts, solve simple riddles and record scores. The pages can be used at birthdays, family gatherings, classroom celebrations or rainy-day play. Keep teams small so every child gets a turn. For a mixed-age group, pair an older child with a younger one and give each child a role such as reader, caller, actor or scorekeeper.

Ideas for home and class

At home, place a few game cards in a bowl and let children take turns choosing one. A picture bingo game can start after snacks, while a treasure hunt can lead children around a safe room or balcony. In class, use the templates during a birthday circle, a Friday reward period or a seasonal celebration. Divide a large class into teams and let children make their own calls or act out clues. You can use buttons, pencils or paper tokens instead of buying party supplies. End with a quiet colouring or thank-you activity.

Helping children play fairly

Young players often call out answers, skip turns or change a rule halfway through a game. Before starting, show one example and say the turn order in simple words. Read each clue aloud for children who are still learning English or reading. Some children may feel shy about acting, so offer choices such as drawing, pointing or being the caller. For games with winners, use a few kinds of recognition, such as kind helper, careful listener or best team effort. This keeps the focus on joining in rather than only on finishing first.

Lumi's tips

  • Make a game easier by using pictures, reducing the number of choices and playing in pairs with an older helper.
  • Make it harder for older children by asking them to write their own clues, keep team scores or explain the rules to a group.
  • Link the games to the party theme by adding familiar foods, places, animals or Indian festival details to the clues.
