Bingo games for different ages

The set includes bingo activities that grow with your child. Younger children can match clear pictures such as animals, foods, colours and everyday objects. Older children can read simple words, identify letters or solve easy number clues before marking a square. Some games use a line as the goal, while others encourage children to complete more of the card. Each game gives children a chance to listen carefully, scan their card and take turns. For more focused practice, try Alphabet Bingo or Number Bingo.

Easy ways to play at home or in class

Cut or separate the caller prompts and give each player a card and a small set of markers. At home, one adult can call the prompts while children play with siblings. In class, place children in small groups and let an older child take a turn as caller. Use buttons, bottle tops or scraps of paper as markers, then check the winning line together. Keep the first round short for younger children. You can repeat a game later with a new caller or ask children to read each word aloud as it is called.

Helping children play carefully

Children often mark a square that looks similar instead of checking the exact picture, word or number. Pause after each call and encourage your child to compare the whole square with the prompt. Some children mark too many spaces when the caller speaks quickly, while others forget which spaces they have already covered. Ask them to point, say the match and then place one marker. Before starting, agree on the winning rule, such as one row, a column or the whole card. This keeps the game clear and avoids arguments.

Lumi's tips

  • Make bingo easier by using only picture cards and giving your child extra time to find each match.
  • Make it harder by asking older children to read the prompt, solve a simple number clue or call the game for others.
  • Keep it connected to daily life by making a homemade set with familiar items from your child's room, kitchen or school bag.

Questions parents ask

What age is bingo suitable for children?

Picture bingo can suit children from about 3 years, while word and number versions can suit older children up to age 12. Choose a card with prompts your child can recognise or read.

What does a child need to play bingo?

Each player needs a bingo card and small markers. One person also needs the caller prompts and reads or shows them one at a time.

How do I download and print these bingo games?

Choose a printable and download the PDF with a free EarlyActivity account. Free accounts can download up to 20 printables a day. Print the file on A4 or US Letter paper at Actual size, which is 100%.

Can bingo be played in a classroom?

Yes. Small groups work well, with one child or adult calling the prompts. Set one clear winning rule and let children take turns being the caller.

How can I make bingo more educational?

Ask children to name the picture, read the word, count the object or explain the number before they cover a matching square. This adds practice without changing the simple game.
