What this second grade set covers

The set brings together Class 2 style practice in reading, spelling, grammar, number work, shapes, simple measurement, patterns and EVS topics. Children may match words to pictures, complete short sentences, compare numbers, solve sums and sort familiar objects. Younger children can work with an adult on tracing, matching and counting. Children closer to second grade can read the directions and complete more of the page independently. Older children can use the same sheets for revision, correction work or a quick start-of-class task. For extra early-level practice, you can also visit LKG Worksheets.

Ways to use the worksheets

At home, choose one page after a reading session or maths lesson rather than handing over a large stack. Ask your child to explain one answer aloud, then mark the page together and correct only a few errors at a time. In class, use a worksheet for quiet practice, pair work or a short revision station. Children can compare methods with a partner before writing their final answers. Keep a small folder for completed work so you can see which skills need more practice. You can use the easier pages with Nursery or LKG children and give the more challenging pages to Class 2 learners.

Helping with common mistakes

Second grade children often rush through directions, reverse letters or numbers, miss small words while reading, and lose track when adding or subtracting. Read the instruction together and ask your child to circle the important word, such as add, greater or beginning. For place value, let the child build a number with bundles of ten and single counters before writing it. For English, encourage finger tracking and sounding out unfamiliar words. In EVS, ask for a reason instead of accepting a guess. A short correction talk helps your child understand the mistake without making the worksheet feel like a test.

Lumi's tips

  • Make it easier by reading each direction aloud and covering part of the page so your child works on one small task at a time.
  • Make it harder by asking your child to write a new example, explain the answer, or create a question using the same skill.
  • Keep it connected to daily life by counting coins, reading a shop label, sorting kitchen items, or describing how a plant changes.
