About graphs & data

Graphs and Data Worksheets in One Place

This subcategory brings together four useful types of data worksheets. Graph Worksheets give children practice with reading and answering questions from simple data displays. Pictograph Worksheets use pictures to represent numbers. Bar Graph Worksheets focus on comparing amounts with bars, while Tally Chart Worksheets practise counting and recording groups of five. The topic pages are arranged by worksheet type, so you can choose a familiar format or give your child practice with a new one.

Choose the Right Level for Your Child

Begin with tally marks, picture counts and one-step questions for a younger child or a learner who is new to data. Children who can count confidently can read pictographs and answer questions such as which group has more. Older children can work with bar graphs, larger numbers and two-step comparisons. Check the worksheet before printing and choose a page that matches your child's current maths work. To make a task harder, ask your child to write two questions about the data or make a graph from a small list.

Ideas for Home and Classroom Practice

Use familiar subjects to make the numbers meaningful. At home, ask family members to choose a favourite fruit, then help your child record the results in a tally chart and turn them into a bar graph. In class, collect data about transport used to reach school, favourite colours or the number of books read in a week. Children can work in pairs, check each other's totals and explain which category has the most or least. Keep a few worksheets for quiet maths practice, early finishers or revision before a test.

Download and Print from EarlyActivity

Open a topic page, select a worksheet and download the PDF using your free EarlyActivity account. Most printables are free, and free accounts can download up to 20 printables each day. The files are sized for A4 and US Letter paper. In your printer settings, choose Actual size or 100% rather than Fit to page, then check that the graph lines and labels are clear. Print copies for use at home or in your own classroom. Sharing or reselling the files is not allowed.

Frequently asked questions

What do children learn from graph worksheets?

Children practise collecting, reading and comparing data. They may count items, identify the greatest or smallest amount, and answer questions from a graph.

What is the difference between a pictograph and a bar graph?

A pictograph uses pictures or symbols to show amounts. A bar graph uses bars, with the length or height of each bar showing the amount.

Are these graph worksheets free?

Most EarlyActivity printables are free. Downloading needs a free account, which can download up to 20 printables a day.

What age are these graphs and data worksheets for?

They suit children from about 6 to 12, depending on the worksheet and your child's maths level. Start with tally charts or simple pictographs, then move to bar graphs and multi-step questions.

Can I use these worksheets in my classroom?

Yes. EarlyActivity printables may be used at home or in your own classroom. Sharing or reselling the files is not allowed.

What paper size should I use when printing?

The PDF files are sized for A4 and US Letter paper. Select Actual size or 100% in your printer settings so the worksheet keeps its intended proportions.
