About handwriting & cursive

Print and Cursive Practice in One Place

This subcategory brings together handwriting pages for different stages of writing practice. Children can begin with Handwriting Practice Worksheets and Print Handwriting Worksheets, then move to Cursive Writing Worksheets when they are ready to join letters. The topic pages are arranged around clear skills, including Cursive Alphabet Worksheets, Cursive Capital Letters Worksheets, Cursive Small Letters Worksheets, Cursive Words Worksheets, Cursive Sentences Worksheets and Four Line Writing Practice. Start with letter formation, then give your child short words and sentences to copy. This helps you choose a page that matches the work your child is already doing at school.

Choose Pages by Age and Writing Level

For a 5 or 6 year old, begin with large print letters, alphabet tracing and simple four-line practice. A child who is learning letter shapes may need just a few letters on each page. For ages 7 to 9, try print handwriting words, capital letters and short sentences, with attention to spacing and letter size. Older children aged 10 to 12 can practise joined cursive, longer words and full sentences. You can make a page easier by covering some examples and copying only one line. Make it harder by asking your child to write the same words without a model.

Simple Ideas for Home and Class

Use one worksheet for a short daily practice session rather than asking your child to complete many pages at once. At home, choose a word from the child's reading book and ask them to copy it in print and then in cursive, if suitable. In class, place a few pages in a writing station for independent work, or use one sentence as a warm-up before language lessons. Read the sentence aloud, discuss its meaning and then let children copy it carefully. Keep a pencil, eraser and sharpener nearby. Compare two pages after a few days and talk about spacing, size and neat joins.
