This set begins with picture-supported reading and very short sentences for children in Nursery, LKG and UKG. Children may listen as you read, name what they see, match an answer or circle a choice. Other worksheets use a short passage followed by simple questions about people, places, actions and details. Children who are ready to read can work independently, while younger learners can answer aloud. The pages give older children a little more text and space to write, so you can select a suitable task for a mixed-age group.
At home, read the passage aloud once, then let your child look at the picture and answer in their own words. Ask them to point to the part of the text that helped them. In class, place a worksheet at a reading centre or use it for a small teacher-led group. Children can first discuss the story with a partner, then complete the questions alone. Keep a few crayons nearby for circling, matching or colouring details. For more practice, use the Reading Comprehension Worksheets collection or try Picture Reading Worksheets.
A common mistake is answering from a familiar idea instead of from the passage. If the text says that a child carries an umbrella, a child may still choose a sunny-day answer because they are thinking about their own experience. Read the sentence again and ask, What does the passage tell us? Another common difficulty is missing small words such as before, under, not or first. Point to these words and explain them with a quick example. Accept spoken answers first, then help your child copy a key word or write a short response.
It is the skill of understanding a short text or story and answering questions about it. For young children, listening, pictures, matching and spoken answers are useful parts of the practice.
Yes. Read the passage aloud and let your child answer by speaking, pointing, matching or circling. Gradually invite them to read familiar words and sentences themselves.
Ask your child to look back at the passage rather than guess. Underline or point to the words that give the answer, then encourage a short spoken or written response.
