This set includes familiar shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, ovals, diamonds, stars and hearts. Younger children can follow large, bold outlines with a crayon or thick pencil. Children who are ready for more control can trace smaller shapes, repeat a shape several times or follow shapes with corners and changes in direction. Some pages can be used for naming and colouring after tracing. The uncluttered layouts leave enough space for a child to work without feeling crowded.
At home, offer one sheet after a snack or story, then name the shapes together. Ask your child to find a matching shape in the room, such as a round plate, a rectangular book or a square tile. In class, place a few worksheets at a tracing table with crayons and chunky pencils. Children can work in small groups while you listen for shape names and help with pencil grip. Use the pages as a quiet morning task, a maths centre activity or a follow-up after a shape hunt.
Children often rush around a shape, lift the pencil at each corner or make a square look like a circle. Show one slow movement first, pointing out where to stop, turn and continue. For a circle, encourage a smooth path back to the starting point. For a triangle or square, pause briefly at each corner rather than pressing hard. If your child becomes tired, stop after one or two attempts and return another day. Praise careful effort, clear turns and trying again instead of expecting every line to be exact.
They are printable pages with outlined shapes for children to follow with a pencil, crayon or colouring tool. They give young children practice with controlled hand movements while they learn shape names.
These worksheets suit children aged 2 to 5. Start with large, simple outlines for younger children and offer smaller shapes or more corners as control improves.
Say the shape name as your child traces it, then ask them to find the same shape nearby. You can also talk about corners, straight sides and curved sides.
Use a larger outline, a thicker crayon and a slower demonstration. Encourage your child to pause at corners and take breaks rather than trying to finish quickly.
