This set introduces young children to Hindi varnamala through large Devanagari letters, simple picture clues and familiar Hindi words. Younger children can look, point and repeat the letter sound with an adult. Children in LKG, UKG and Class 1 can name the picture, trace the letter in the air and match cards with the same starting sound. The cards give children a small group of letters to practise at a time, rather than asking them to remember the whole alphabet in one sitting.
Show one card and say the letter and picture word slowly. Ask your child to repeat it, find the same letter on a chart or draw the object beside it. In a class, place three cards on a mat and ask children to touch the card you name. You can also turn the cards face down for a memory game, sort them by familiar objects or use them as prompts for a short Hindi speaking activity. Link the set with Alphabet Flashcards when children are learning English letters too.
Young learners may confuse letters that look alike or forget the line and marks that change a letter's sound. They may also name the picture but not listen to the first sound in its Hindi word. Say the letter clearly, then repeat the word without rushing. Trace the shape with a finger and compare only two letters at a time. Keep vowel signs for a later step if your child is still learning the basic letters. Praise careful looking and clear attempts rather than asking for fast answers.
