Calm, simple activities for different ages

This set includes gentle ways to practise mindfulness through breathing, noticing, colouring, feelings and short reflection. Younger children can trace a breathing path, name what they can see and hear, or colour a calm picture. Older children can write about body signals, helpful thoughts, gratitude and moments when they felt upset. Each activity can stand alone, so you can choose a suitable page for Nursery, LKG, UKG or Classes 1 to 5.

Use the pages at home or in class

Choose one short activity when your child is already fairly calm, such as after waking up, before homework or at the end of the school day. In class, use a breathing or noticing page as a quiet start to the morning. Read the instructions aloud for younger children and allow them to answer by drawing or speaking. Pair the worksheets with Calm Down Cards or Feelings Worksheets when a child needs help naming an emotion.

Help children practise without pressure

Children may rush through a breathing activity, say they cannot sit still or become more aware of an uncomfortable feeling. Mindfulness is a skill they practise in small moments, not a test of staying silent or feeling happy. Keep your voice slow, offer a choice of activities and stop if the child becomes distressed. You can say, 'Let us notice one thing together,' rather than asking the child to calm down immediately. Praise careful noticing and honest answers.

Lumi's tips

  • Make it easier by doing the activity with your child and using spoken answers, pointing or drawing instead of writing.
  • Make it harder by asking an older child to record what they noticed before, during and after a short breathing exercise.
  • Keep it connected to daily life by practising three slow breaths before a meal, a game, homework or bedtime.

Questions parents ask

What are mindfulness activities for kids?

They are short activities that help children notice their breathing, thoughts, feelings, senses or surroundings. They can include colouring, breathing paths, body check-ins and gratitude prompts.

What is a good mindfulness activity for a 3-year-old?

Try a simple breathing picture, a senses hunt or a page where the child points to an emotion. Keep it brief and let the child respond with words, gestures or drawings.

How can I use mindfulness worksheets in a classroom?

Use one page during a quiet morning start, after playtime or before a transition. Read the directions aloud and give children the choice to draw, talk or write where suitable.

Can mindfulness help a child who is upset?

A familiar breathing or noticing activity may give a child a quiet pause. Offer it gently when the child is ready, and stay close rather than expecting the worksheet to solve the problem.

How do I download and print these worksheets?

You can download the free PDFs with an EarlyActivity account and print them for use at home or in your own classroom. Files are made for A4 and US Letter paper, and printing at Actual size, 100%, keeps the worksheet layout correct.
