About space & earth

Topics arranged for clear science practice

This subcategory brings together worksheets about space, Earth and the natural features around us. Start with Solar System Worksheets and Planets Worksheets for work on the Sun, planets and their order. Phases of the Moon Worksheets and Day and Night Worksheets cover changes children can observe in the sky. Sun Worksheets and Earth Worksheets focus on these two important members of our solar system. Landforms Worksheets, along with Rocks and Soil Worksheets, move from space to the ground beneath your child's feet. You can open a topic page and choose an activity that matches your lesson or home practice plan.

Choosing a worksheet by age and level

For children around 5 to 7, begin with picture-based tasks such as naming the Sun, Earth and planets, matching day with night, or identifying a mountain, river and desert. Children around 7 to 9 can practise planet order, Moon phases, landform names and simple facts about rocks and soil. For ages 9 to 12, choose activities that ask for labels, comparisons, written answers or explanations. Read the worksheet directions before printing. If a page feels difficult, work through one example together. To add challenge, ask your child to explain an answer or write one extra fact.

Simple ideas for home and classroom use

At home, use a Solar System or Planets worksheet after reading a library book, watching the night sky or making a simple paper model. Ask your child to keep a Moon observation record for several evenings, then use a Phases of the Moon worksheet to discuss the changes. In class, pair Earth, Landforms, and Rocks and Soil worksheets with a tray of soil, small stones or photographs of landforms. Children can sort, label and compare what they see. Use Day and Night worksheets for a short partner discussion, then let pairs explain their answers to the class.
