Charts for young children and older learners

This set includes birthday displays with clear month sections, spaces for names, date labels and cheerful classroom themes. Younger children can place their names or photos in the right month with adult help. Children in primary classes can write their own names, add the date and check the order of the months. Some designs work well as a whole-class display, while smaller charts suit a reading corner, study space or home learning area. The simple layouts keep the birthday information easy to see without making the display feel crowded.

Simple ways to use the display

Put the chart near the classroom entrance, calendar area or attendance board so children can check it during the morning routine. Invite each child to write their name on a card and place it under the correct month. At home, your child can make a family birthday chart and compare birthdays by season or month. Pair the display with a Welcome Banner for Classroom for a welcoming wall. You can also ask children to say the month names aloud, copy them into a notebook or make a birthday card for a classmate.

Help children read dates correctly

Children often place a birthday in the wrong month, reverse the day and month, or forget to use a capital letter at the start of a name. Read the date aloud and show the child where the month is written before they add their name. In India, practise the day-month order used on your school records, such as 14 July, and keep the format the same across the chart. For younger children, use a small calendar to find the month. Older children can check the chart, sort birthdays from earliest to latest and count how many birthdays fall in each month.

Lumi's tips

  • For younger children, use name cards with a small photo or symbol so they can match each child to the right month.
  • For older children, ask them to add the day and sort the names within each month in date order.
  • Keep the chart active by checking it at the start of each month and letting children make a simple birthday greeting card.
