The set begins with clear picture comparisons for younger children. They can look at two groups of objects and circle the group with more or less. Older children can count carefully, compare written numbers and complete missing signs such as greater than, less than or equal to. Familiar objects such as fruits, toys, animals and school items help children focus on the maths idea. Use the simpler sheets with Nursery, LKG and UKG children, then offer number-based practice to children in Classes 1 to 3.
At home, start with real objects before handing your child a pencil. Place two groups of spoons, blocks or buttons on the table and ask which group has more, then which has less. In class, pair children and give each pair counters to check their answers. You can use one worksheet for guided practice and save another for independent work. For a quick maths centre, keep counters beside the sheets so children can build each group before they circle, match or write an answer. For related comparison practice, see Big and Small Worksheets and Length Worksheets.
Children often think a spread-out group has more objects than a close group. Move the objects into pairs or ask your child to touch and count each one once. Some children count correctly but choose the wrong answer because they compare the size of the pictures instead of the number of objects. Cover the pictures after counting and ask, 'Which number did you make?' Older children may reverse the greater than and less than signs, so read the full comparison aloud and check whether it matches the numbers. Let your child explain the answer rather than correcting it too quickly.
Children practise counting groups, comparing quantities and identifying which number is greater or smaller. Older children can also practise comparison signs and simple number sentences.
They suit children aged 2 to 8. Younger children can compare pictures and groups, while older children can work with written numbers and symbols.
Use two groups of everyday objects, such as buttons or blocks. Ask your child to count each group, say which has more or less and explain how they know.
