About measurement & comparison

Worksheets for Measuring and Comparing

This subcategory brings together worksheets that help children notice and describe differences. Measurement Worksheets introduce simple measuring tasks, while Big and Small, Tall and Short, and Long and Short Worksheets focus on size and length. Heavy and Light Worksheets support everyday comparisons of weight. More and Less Worksheets use groups of objects to build early quantity skills. Children can then practise Length, Weight and Capacity Worksheets with pictures, simple units or recording tasks. The pages are grouped by skill, so you can choose one clear idea at a time instead of giving your child several new concepts together.

Choosing a Worksheet by Age and Level

For children aged 2 to 4, start with picture activities such as finding the big object, matching tall and short items, or circling the group with more. These pages work well with spoken prompts and adult support. Children aged 4 to 6 can compare objects, order them from short to long, and identify heavy or light items from pictures. For ages 6 to 8, try Length, Weight or Capacity Worksheets that involve counting units, reading simple measurements or choosing a suitable container. Begin with familiar examples, then move to pages with more objects or written answers.

Using the Pages at Home and in Class

Before a worksheet, let your child compare real objects. Ask which pencil is longer, which bag feels heavier, or which cup holds more water. In class, place three classroom items in a row and ask children to order them from small to big or short to tall. Use the worksheet afterwards to record what they noticed. For younger children, read each instruction aloud and let them point, circle or colour. Older children can explain their choice and check it with a ruler, balance or measuring cup. Keep a few pages for revision when the same vocabulary comes up in maths lessons.
