About patterns, sorting & logic

A clear set of early logic worksheets

This subcategory brings together worksheets that help young children notice how things are alike, different and arranged. Pattern Worksheets and AB Pattern Worksheets use simple repeating sequences. What Comes Next Worksheets ask children to continue an order, while Odd One Out Worksheets help them spot the picture that does not belong. You will also find Sorting, Same and Different, Matching, Position Words and Colors Worksheets. The topics are grouped by the skill they practise, so you can choose one focused activity instead of searching through unrelated pages.

Choose a page that suits your child

Start with picture-based pages and a small number of choices for a child who is new to worksheets. For ages 2 to 3, try simple matching, same and different, colours or sorting by one clear feature, such as size or colour. Children aged 4 to 5 may be ready for AB patterns, position words such as above and below, and odd one out pages. Around ages 5 to 6, offer longer patterns, what comes next tasks and sorting that uses two features. Follow your child's comfort rather than relying only on age.

Simple ways to use them at home or in class

Print one page for a short activity, then talk about each answer. At home, place buttons, blocks or pencils in an AB pattern and ask your child what should come next. In class, use picture cards or classroom objects for a sorting warm-up before handing out a worksheet. Let children explain why two items match or why one item is different. If a page feels hard, cover some choices or complete the first example together. To add challenge, ask your child to make a new pattern for a partner to continue.
